BASKETS

Charnwood tatting day is 16 October. We have a project table ,this year it's tatted baskets, here are a couple I've done. One is the seahorse dragon doily pattern, but I've missed one section out to create a basket, the other is Jane's wedding favour basket. Both are worked with Lizbeth thread one 20 and one 10. I have just started using Lizbeth thread and love working with it, also love that if you do happen to do a ring wrong its easy to undo, much better than Altin basak. Think it's a bit more silkier and so slides more.

Larks head knot

A couple of days ago while blog cruising i heard on Gina's blog about a Larks head knot. I first heard about this when i started tatting. When i asked people about this no one knew what it was. I did my best with a lock join. Now i have the info i have re-tatted the heart using the knot. I have not got the little blob of second colour. Go and have a look at her blog (threads of a tatting goddess) and follow the link. I'll use this on many projects in future.
The pattern is derivative of heartsy by
Teri Dusenbury and done by BJ tats.

Anniversary vase.

Hello again, sorry i have not posted any thing recently.Have been on jollies to isle of wight.

I did a small amount of large project i talked about but i don't like it so I'm going to start again. I bought the ring of tatters new anniversary book , has some lovely patterns. I did enjoy making this little vase and flowers from the book it was done especially for the 30 anniversary by Abby fisher-small. I used Lizbeth 10 for the vase and altin basak 50 for the flowers. I'm really pleased how the vase turned out using variegated thread. It is a bit fiddly but that helped keeping my mind of the bad news i had from my son(25), we think his cancer has returned and he was doing so well. Will find out 18Th august. happy tatting everyone.

Winner

Yesterday the post man deliver a parcel. i jumped for joy on opening it. Inside was a letter to say i had won the Ring of tatters competition and a box containing the shuttle i had won.

They had printed a pattern and you could do what you wanted, as long as you could still see the pattern. I added beads to the main part, then did just the center part again with beads, did quiet a few Josephine rings for the very center, used a leaf pattern by Rosemarie Peel and a stem and joined it all together.added a broach pin at the back and hay presto a winning design was born. The shuttle is fantastic and I'm over the moon can't stop smiling.yipeeeeeeeeeeeee.Hope you like them to.

kumihimo

A big thank you to Maureen who commented on Jane's site on Monday about kumihimo. I had not heard of this, so looked it up on the web. Thought i would like a go, so looked and found the things needed for sale. No English sites and what a price for some thing's i only would use a few times. Went away and thought about it and came up with what you see. Yes a bit of cardboard and the use of a protractor.Found a site that gave a tutorial. well I'm pleased with the result just needed to go shopping tomorrow for the findings. I can see some tatting being added at some point when i get the hang of it.

I have looked at this pattern several times but looked hard to do, now felt the time was right. Oh why Oh why did i wait. Its fantastic well done Jane Ebroll on this pattern it was wonderful to tat. museum

Today i got to take the photo's at Charnwood museum in town. They have on display some lovely pockets, made of different mediums, and by all ages. The royal Victoria and Albert museum in London has arranged that they can go on display there later this year and then be put in there vaults for the future. I had the pleasure of being asked to join in so mine has tatting on it. Each pocket tells a story, as you see mine is" ring a ring a roses". During the plague it was said if you kept roses in a pocket and smelt it you would not get the plague. The one with pants on brought back memories of school days.

seahorse earings

Well with the sun shining all day yesterday and husband and friend putting up new fence out front. I sat in garden and had a go at some thing i have wanted to do for ages. Seahorse earrings (pattern by Jane E ),bit fiddly as i used some thin thread (long staple 30/3ply cotton) had also wanted to use these pretty pastel pearl beads. Going to wear them today as going out to steam train museum. Got to keep old man happy.

Three bits

Well the sun has come out to play, love sitting in garden tatting.

Again Jane E has been my inspiration. I could not find any curtain rings so next tryed Bojangles jewelry/bead shop. yes had rings but not solid but superglue fixed that, and only silver as you see. Also two sizes. Price was 10p/15p. Did not brake the bank!! The thread i used is 50 altin basak. Loved working the pattern. Think I'll make lots and give away to friends at Christmas i may have enough if i start now.
PS have not done lock chain before ,loved how the two colours worked.

Thanks Carol for your comment on size of my picots. I'll let you into a little secret these are my favorit it tools i use when i tat. The hook is a cut down .4 crochet hook, and the picot gauge is a cocktail stick. I constantly use them as i sit in my chair to tat, both are on ribbon that just rest's nicely on my tum and i don't keep loosing them. Ido prefer to see nicely made same, size picots in my work.
